Former president of the FIFA Josef Blatter shared his opinion on the use of the video assistance referee (VAR) for arbitrators at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The BBC quotes the words of the former football official.

“For such a football conservative like me, VAR is an innovation that is too quickly being introduced into the sport. Most judges have never had any experience with this system. I think that introducing it at the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia is not a good idea.” Blatter added that players and judges will not be feeling comfortable.

Earlier, he discussed the three seconds of the final match between the USSR – the USA in the basketball tournament in the context of the 1972 Olympics.

But what needs to be said is that the VAR is not being introduced for the first time at the forthcoming tournament. It has been already used at other international competitions. And VAR is not a main tool, it is just a supplementary instrument for the decision to be made in case if there are some doubts.
